unknown archive format

I have 3 xml documents and 1 dtd. The dtd opens just fine but the xml files come up with an error message "unknown archive format or corrupted archive." They still open but I'm turning this in for a project and don't want to turn in corrupt files. I've saved them as .xml so I'm not sure what is wrong with them. Any ideas?

Send us the XML files for analysis. Write to our support email address support@oxygenxml.com and attach the files to the email(zip them if they're large).
