Keyboard shortcuts for character map

Would it be possible to add the ability to assign keyboard shortcuts to any glyph in the character map? For example, click on a particular glyph then have a text field in the character map where a combination keystroke could be entered. This would be extremely useful for authoring. Currently, it is only possible to do something like this by writing a processing instruction - but for non-technical authors this is too much to ask.

We'll consider this as an improvement request.

What do you mean exactly?

As a workaround you could create code templates in the Oxygen Preferences->"Editor / Templates / Code Templates" page with a certain display name which insert a certain character code.
These created code templates appear in the content completion list when pressing ENTER in the Author page and thus can be easily inserted.
