Single click to open and switch to files from project window

Post by alanWsmith »

One feature I'd love to see added is the ability to quickly and easily use the "Project" pane in the main editor view to navigate files. Specifically, I'd like to see Oxygen setup so that a single click on a file in the project window opens the file.

This would make it a little easier to open files, but more importantly, it would make navigating around a large set of open files easier and a little more intuitive (e.g. the file you have highlighted in the Project window would be the one that's open in Editor window.)

To give an example where this would be useful, take a case with the following directory structure (which is one I deal with often):

./2011/schedule.xml
./2010/schedule.xml
./2009/schedule.xml
./2008/schedule.xml
etc...

Having several of those files open in the Editor window results in multiple tabs that are all named "schedule.xml". Instead of trying to use those top tabs to navigate, I'll use the project window. Double clicking isn't a big issue, but I'm frequently bouncing around a lot and it would be great if a single click would open and switch to the file.

Thanks,
-Alan

Hello,

Thank you for the feedback.

I've logged your request to our issue tracking tool. This will be analyzed and if found appropriate it will be implemented in a future version of Oxygen.

Note that if you have multiple files with the same name(but different directories) the file list from the Window menu could also be helpful for switching between editors. In this list the files also have partial paths(the parent directory).
