Editing inline file entities
Hello,
It would be extremely useful for me to be able to edit the contents of files included via entity reference while in the context of the parent document (for the purposes of entity resolution and schema and so on).
I work with an old set of docbook sources that does not use xi:include, so as soon as I open included files, oXygen does not have enough context to resolve entities (or nested file inclusions) defined in the parent document. Being able to do this in-line in author mode would be a life saver.
It might be hard to come up with a good user interface for opening up these included files in their own tabs that have the parent document's context, but that would be even better.

Re: Editing inline file entities
Hello Sam,
We do have plans for a future version of Oxygen to allow inline editing of content references(DITA)/included content(XInclude). But I really don't see the same thing being implemented for entity references. Implementing this would sometimes result in making modifications in the DTD, which is not a good idea to allow.
While the entity resolving problems can be addressed for validation( custom validation scenario that validates the parent), the same thing cannot be said for editing in Author mode.
I would suggest migrating to XInclude, entity references weren't meant to be used for including large chunks in a parent document.
Regards,
Adrian

Re: Editing inline file entities
Hi Adrian,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to my request. I agree that I need to migrate the source to a saner inclusion mechanism, but that is a major project and I wanted to see if I had any hope of migrating to oXygen sooner rather than later. It's an excellent editor.
