Resource Dependencies Option for Images
Post by dreifsnider »
Hi,
Is it possible to implement the Resource Dependencies option that's used on dita files for other file types as well, specifically image files? My team currently uses the Find in Files feature, but we have to search the entire project which is quite large and so it takes quite a bit of time to search per image. We only want to search through the Master Files.
Perhaps we could have a new scope option defined in the Find in Files dialog that would limit the scope to Master Files?
Thanks!
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
You can already view the dependencies for an image by using the "Resource Hierarchy/Dependencies" panel. If you want to view the dependencies for a media resource (such as images) directly referenced in a DITA topic, click the "Show Dependencies" button on the toolbar of the "Resource Hierarchy/Dependencies" side-view, select the "All files" filter in the file browser, find the particular resource/image, and double-click it (https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... -view.html). If you don't see this side-view, go to the "Window" menu > "Show view" > "Resource Hierarchy/Dependencies".
You can also search for the references to an image using the contextual menu of the Author page, by invoking the "Search References" action (https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... ck_yz5_shb).
We also have an issue (EXM-43251 - for references purposes) for adding a "Resource dependencies" action in the contextual menu of the "Project" view too, and I added your vote for it.
All the best wishes,

@Sorin
Would it be possible to update the Resouce Hierarchy/Dependencies panel to state something along the lines of "No dependencies found" when a resource does not have any dependencies?
Currently, it displays as if the search for dependencies somehow errored out or that something went wrong when no dependencies are found. To avoid confusion, it would be nice to see a message that directly states that no dependencies were found for the selected resource.
Thanks!

Hi again Daniel,
Of course we could do that
. I've just created an improvement request (EXM-44991). We will update this thread when a kit having this improvement will be available.
Best wishes,
Sorin Carbunaru
