WebHelp Search results don't show topic title

Hi,
I'm using oXygen Author 14.0 to transform DITA topics to WebHelp, which is being viewed in Internet Explorer v8. In the output, I have the Content and the Search tabs. In the Search tab, when I enter a search parameter, the results come back showing "Footer" as the topic title. The entries (all called Footer) have links and when I click a Footer entry, I see my topic displaying normally.

ALl my topics have a title (which show up correctly in the Content tab) and even ones with a Search Alt title element do not show up properly. I use a custom CSS, but I don't think there's anything in that file that would affect the title. I use the standard DITA Map WebHelp transform.

Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Hi,

Can you try also using Oxygen 14.2, which is the latest (and most stable) version of the Oxygen 14.x family? If you get the same error please send us a small sample set of files (a sample DITA map and the included topic files) for reproducing the problem on our side.

Unfortunately, due to IT restrictions, I can't upgrade from the version I'm on (without MAJOR bureaucracy). Is there anything I can do on this version?

Hi Karen,

I assumed you already knew that a license for Oxygen 14 entitles you to all minor versions of the 14.x family. So just go ahead and upgrade to Oxygen 14.2, you don't need to purchase an upgrade if you want a version number in the same family (all 14.x versions).

If you still get the same problem with the wrong topic title please send us the requested set of sample files for reproducing the problem.

Yes, I'd love to upgrade, but the IT group here won't let me. I'm working on that, but in the meantime I'm developing and delivering content with this issue.

Hello,

Thank you for the files. I tried the DITA Webhelp transformation on your DITA map with Oxygen 14.1 build 2012121012 and I cannot reproduce the problem that I see in your output HTML files.

Please install a later build of Oxygen 14.1, or better the Oxygen 14.2 build that is available on the Oxygen website. You don't have to upgrade your license, to pay for any new license or to request a new license. You just download the Oxygen install kit and install it on your computer. You don't have to uninstall your current Oxygen 14.1 installation, just install the new Oxygen build in a different install directory and start Oxygen from this new install directory.

Thanks for your patience Sorin, I could install the update - earlier attempts (with 14.1) weren't successful. Most likely user error...

So when I run my build on 14.2, I still get the title in the search as "Footer" rather than the title. I'll send you the image.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

Please can you send us a set of sample DITA files (a small DITA map with the included topics) for reproducing the problem with the fixed title in the search results ("Footer") instead of the real topic title? I cannot get this problem with the various DITA maps that I tried. It could be some markup in your topics that is not handled correctly by the Webhelp transformation, but without seeing the error in a transformation I cannot figure out what could go wrong.

Hi Sorin,
When I run the build file using the default build (not the build file I sent with the files), the search behaves properly. It must be something in my build file. I'll dig through it and see what I can figure out.

Hi Karen,

I didn't know you used a custom build file. You sent only a screenshot that showed the problem in the browser but no actual files used in the transformation.

You are right, if the problem does not manifest with the built-in file then it is probably triggered by some element in your custom build file. If you can send your custom build file I could try to identify the problem in your build file.

Those file should have been in the zip file I sent.
Anyway, I found the problem - it was the Footer XML file itself. I had used a default concept topic and that info, including the title element, was getting pulled in to the output and probably overriding the real topic title. Mystery solved. Once I stripped out the extraneous code, it ran fine.
