troubleshooting revision bars in PDFs

Post by kate_lopresti »

My team uses change bars in PDFs to call out new topics in a document.
When applied to subheadings (H2,H3), the revision bars tend to push section numbers into their titles (see image).
dita-ot.org states that the offset, placement and width attributes are not currently configurable. Is there another option we can use to fix this spacing?

Thanks,
Kate

Hey Kate, I’ve had that issue too—those change bars can really mess up the layout, especially with numbered headings. What helped me was tweaking the margin or padding in the stylesheet to give the section numbers some breathing room. It's not ideal since DITA-OT doesn't offer much flexibility out of the box, but it’s a decent workaround. Curious if anyone's found a more elegant solution though.

Hello Kate,

It seems that the image didn't make it, could you reupload it?
Also could you indicate which PDF scenario you are using (XSL-FO or HTML5 & CSS)?
Finally which version of Oxygen are you running?

Regards,
Julien
