CPU Usage on OS X

Very new to Oxygen and a bit disappointed at the CPU usage that Oxygen takes when idle. I have a 1.8 GHz G5 imac, and it takes between 10 and 20% when doing nothing! It can take a lot of CPU when I'm doing stuff with it, but I don't want to have to care about leaving it open or not when not in use... Is this due to the JVM of OS X?

Yes, all that activity is on the AWT thread involving only java classes (that is no oXygen code).
