Author and Editor shut down on start

Post by JPeraita »

Hi,

I just bought and installed OXYGEN.
The first time I opened the application I was able to paste my registration information, but when I tried to open an XML file it shut down...

Now if I try to open either Author or Editor, I get the splash screen and a progress bar saying "Loading application". At 2%, in both cases, the screen disappears and nothing is loaded.

I'm using Windows XP with all the patches and updates.
Also my antivirus is "BitDefender Internet Security 2011".

OXYGEN really looked good, but all I've got now is an unusable application (and a significant charge in my credit card!).

Any idea?

Thanks in advance,

Hello,

I've sent you a private email, but for all intents and purposes I'm also including here the first part of it.

Is Oxygen.exe still running after the splash screen disappears?
To check for this, right click on the task bar(on an empty space) and from the popup menu choose "Task Manager". Select the "Processes" tab and in the "Image Name" column look for "oxygen.exe". If it's there(one or more instances) select each of them and press End Process.
If there were any "oxygen.exe" processes and you ended them, try to start Oxygen again via the start menu.

If it still fails to start, try to launch it via the command line launcher: Start Menu -> All Programs -> Oxygen XML Editor 12.1 -> Command line launchers -> Oxygen XML Editor or go to the Oxygen installation folder(C:\Program Files\Oxygen XML Editor 12) and start "oxygen.bat".

If it still fails to start, rename or delete the Oxygen options folder(C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\com.oxygenxml). This will reset Oxygen to its defaults, it will ask for the license key again. Try to start Oxygen(either way).

Hi,

Just in case anyone else encounters this, the problem was that during the Oxygen startup, DLLs from two different Java JREs were somehow mixed together. Oxygen started with the bundled JRE, 1.6.0_18, but for some unknown reason, loaded some of the DLLs of the system installed JRE. This was causing the Java VM to crash.

The workaround was to rename/delete the jre folder from the Oxygen installation folder. Then Oxygen started correctly with the system JRE.
