Edit Mode in Version 11

Post by jgreen »

I have just upgraded to version 11 of Oxygen XML Editor. Whenever I open an xml file for the first time since upgrading, it opens in Author mode, despite the XML editor initial page being set to Text in the preferences dialog. If I switch the xml file being edited to Text mode, that file will open in Text mode next time I open it. In version 10.3, files open in whichever mode is selected in the preferences dialog. How do I get the xml editor to open files in Text mode every time in version 11?

Thanks
John

Dear John,

Starting with Oxygen 11, you can specify for each XML document type a startup page.
This is done from the Oxygen Document Type Association page by editing the document type specific for your XML and choosing in a combo the initial page for open.
For Docbook, TEI, DITA and XHTML we set as default the Author page so this is probably why your XML files open in Author by default.
After closing the file in a certain page, Oxygen will remember the chosen page and will reopen the file only in that page.

Thanks, Radu, for the explanation. I can see the usefulness of this new feature. Perhaps changed behaviour like this could be made more obvious in the documentation, including in the list of new features in version 11.

Oxygen is an excellent product, the best XML editor I have found yet. Keep up the good work!

Thanks
John
