oXygen 10.3 on XP 64-bit

Post by mdamkier »

Hi,
I have just upgraded my machine here and now am running oXygen 10.3 in XP 64-bit. In my previous environment I had 9.3 running on XP 32-bit.
A couple of things...
First, sometimes oXygen just "goes away" for a few seconds. No response, no cursor, etc. This can be when selecting a menu, writing in the editor (most annoying), seems any operation. The time away is usually not long, maybe three to four seconds but can be longer, up to 20. I have not been able to get a feeling for when, or consequently why, this happens.
Any ideas?
Also, a strange thing regarding entities and entity completion. In 9.3 when I typed a & the editor would begin suggesting entities but not in my current set-up. The available entities are displayed in the right-side entities window. Is this a preference?
Thanks for any help.

The delays are strange. We tested Oxygen on Windows XP 64 bits but we did not get such delays. Is the busy mouse cursor displayed during the delays? If yes that is a sign that the CPU is busy with other background processes.

If you do not do a network operation that may stall for some time (open a file from an HTTP server, validating an XML document against a schema located on a remote server, etc) as you specify (you just select a menu or write in the editor) and if you are sure there are no other Windows background processes that take up the CPU please contact us via the Technical Support page to tell you how to enable logging in Oxygen. We will look in a log file generated on your computer to see if there is any data about the delays.

The entities displayed in the right-side Entities view should be available in the popup menu of code completion too. There is a preference for that: Show all entities available in Preferences -> Content Completion. Is this option enabled?

Hallo sorin,
Thanks for the reply. I now have the entities displayed.

As for the other thing, in fact the resources (xml files, catalogs, entity files, etc.) are all on a network drive. We use ClearCase and the files are in a dynamic view. Will a log file help show if delays here are at fault?

Thanks again,
- Michael

Do you get the delays when you edit files stored on the local computer, not files stored on a network drive? If not that means the delay is caused by the network access and you should get a delay also in other applications that work with the same files. If not an Oxygen log file will help probably to find the cause of the delay.
