10.1 wn standalone startup - 2 selectable windows in taskbar

Post by strivinglife »

I started to post this as a bug report, but I'm having a difficult time reproducing the steps that caused it, and although I thought I could, can't get it to go away.

Anyone else have a similar issue?

Windows Vista Ultimate
Standalone
10.1 build 2009022712
JVM: 1.6.0_11

===

I prefer to have the editor open the files I regularly work on when I start the application. However, I've noticed that when I do so, the startup window, that shows the current load percentage of the application, sticks around. This results in two task bar icons.

Clicking on the first (the loading window) results in nothing displaying, while the second is the actual editor.

If I right-click on the first and select Minimize, then click on it again, I am presented with a white square (the same size as the loading window), with a standard, 'minimized' title bar, in the upper left-hand corner.

As soon as I hover over the 'window,' the mouse switches to 'working,' and that window freezes. Selecting Close from the task bar does nothing (whether I hover first or not). However, I can still interact with the normal editor's window, and can easily close from there.

Closing the second window closes the first, at any time, without issue.

If I close all files, and then close out of oXygen completely, opening the editor again still results in two windows.

Turning off Options > Preferences > Global > Open last edited files from project doesn't resolve the issue either.

===

Anyone ran into this as well, or know of a way to reproduce?

I did upgrade from the previous version, and had files open on startup previously without this issue. I did notice that after the upgrade it forgot what files I had open, but no worries.

Thanks,

~James

Hello,

I cannot reproduce the problem. What is the style and theme set in Preferences -> Global? Do they have the default values or you changed them? Do you have the Windows look and feel set in Preferences -> Global?

The files are reopened automatically only if they are local, that is they are not HTTP URLs, FTP URLs, etc, if an Oxygen project is also opened automatically at startup and of course if the option Open last edited files from project is enabled. If the Project view is empty (newProject.xpr) the files are not reopened. What URLs did the files have?

Hi Sorin,

Thanks for your replies.

I'll check on the first when I get back home tonight, but I assume it's the default settings. But again, I'll verify that.

As I do all of my work locally first, all of the files that I would have had open before I upgraded would have been on a local (internal) hard drive.

Unfortunately, I upgraded shortly after the upgrade came out, so I don't recall if I needed to recheck the appropriate setting (if perhaps the upgrade unchecked it).

The next time I upgrade I'll make a note to keep an eye out for this.

Thanks again,

~James

No, the upgrade does not change the user preferences. The preferences are imported automatically by the new version. You say they are local files and the option was enabled so the files should be reopened if an Oxygen project was opened in the Project view the last time when you used the old version (and the project file is still in the same location).

If an Oxygen project was opened in the Projects view but the local files are not reopened when you start the new Oxygen version we need the user preferences stored in [user-home-folder]/AppData/Roaming/com.oxygenxml to find what is wrong. Please send a zip archive with the whole com.oxygenxml folder.

Look and Feel: Windows
Styles: Office 2003
Themes: Default

Per your other messages, I'm going to go ahead and send in the file you noted.

Interestingly enough, when I start Oxygen this evening, I get only the one, correct, window, once the application has finished loading ...

However, I started re-opening files ... and got it to occur. Having a 281 KB xml file seemed to have been the turning point. Until I closed the editor and re-opened, resulting in a single window ... (even though the 281 KB file was loaded)

Closing the large file, closing Oxygen, opening Oxygen, opening the large file, closing Oxygen, and opening Oxygen still resulted in a single window.

Grief.

I cannot reproduce the two taskbar buttons/two windows with any sequence of actions. If you find a sequence of actions that reproduces the problem please let us know.

Thank you,
Sorin
