DocBook to Text Transformation is corrupted
Hi.
I'm evaluating oXygen with regard to writing technical documentation. Essential to this is being able to produce PDF and plain text formats of the doc. So far the PDF has worked mostly to expectations (a few quirks I need to understand better). However, all attempts to use a Text transformation produce corrupted output. Characters replaced by spaces, skipped entirely, and unprintable characters included.
I've tried searching these forums for answers, but "Text", "DocBook", and "Transformations" are too common to be allowed in searches. Is this a known problem? Will it be fixed?
Incidentally, as Eclipse 3.4 is about to become the current stable version of the platform, will there be a new version of oXygen to make that its prefered version?

Hello,
I assume you used the text output method of the built-in FO processor of Oxygen. For text output obtained from an XML document I think you can get more useful results with a custom XSLT stylesheet that you can write. If all you need to do is output just the text content without XML tags then developing the XSLT stylesheet should not be very hard. However I did not find such a stylesheet available by a quick Google search.
The next version of Oxygen, that is version 9.3 will support Eclipse 3.4 including the new plugin installation method.
Regards,
Sorin

Re: DocBook to Text Transformation is corrupted
Hi,
I am using the text output method of the built-in FO processor, as described in the help file for outputting plain text from DocBook. At this stage I do not have enough experience or knowledge to create an XSLT stylesheet, that's why I was trying the option offered in the help file. If this would be a simpler option, as you suggest, then I am surprised it is not the default method provided.
What surprises me about the provided method, is not that the layout is not to my expectations, but that the text is corrupted and so unuseable. This would appear to be a bug.
Is there any idea of a release date for Oxygen v9.3?

Hello,
Yes, the text renderer of the FOP processor is limited. It should be used only for getting a quick-and-dirty view of the document text.
Version 9.3 will be released probably in about a week.
