Missing Context Dropdown Menus
I'm not sure if this is a bug, a compatibility issue, or if I've accidentally turned off a feature.
A number of weeks ago, I lost the ability to get dropdown menus in the Project tab of oXygen XML Editor. These drop down menus used to be accessible using a two-finger click on my Mac trackpad. I could use a two-finger click on a file, and it would bring up a menu of things I could do with that file. Now, a two-finger click does nothing.
This problem is only occurring on a Mac Mini running macOS Sequoia 15.2, with <oXygen/> XML Editor 24.1, build 2022030807.
Using a MacBook Air with the exact same build of oXygen, and running macOS Sonoma 14.7.2, I do not have this issue.
I'm guessing it might be a compatibility issue with the macOS upgrade to Sequoia. Are you aware of any issues like this? I hadn't been using oXygen on the Mac Mini for a while, so I don't know if this issue corresponded to the timing of the upgrade to Sequoia.
If this happens to be some type of setting that may have been accidentally turned off, can you give any advice to how I can track it down?

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
Hi,
By "two-finger click on my Mac trackpad" you probably mean actually doing the physical audible click on the trackpad, not just gently tapping, right?
You mentioned the problem only happening in the Project view. How about two finger trackpad clicks in an opened XML document? Does the popup contextual menu show there?
How about if you restart Oxygen?
Other than that Oxygen does not have specific settings to control that, on Mac OS in the Settings there is the "Trackpad" category in which there is a "Secondary click" setting, to what value is that set on your side?
Regards,
Radu

Yes, that is correct.By "two-finger click on my Mac trackpad" you probably mean actually doing the physical audible click on the trackpad, not just gently tapping, right?
On further investigation, it doesn't show there either. So it's not just the Project view. You mentioned the problem only happening in the Project view. How about two finger trackpad clicks in an opened XML document? Does the popup contextual menu show there?
I have restarted Oxygen multiple times and it simply stays the same. And I don't have this problem in any other app. Everywhere else on my Mac works as expected, bringing up the relevant contextual menu dropdown, no matter what app I am in. The problem only surfaces in Oxygen. In the trackpad settings, the Secondary Click is set to "Click or Tap with Two Fingers".

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
Hi,
Do you have a physical mouse you could try to plugin in and test for curiosity if right clicking using it works in Oxygen?
Could you also try to download an Oxygen 27.0 installation kit and use it with a trial license? Just to see if the problem persists on newer Oxygen versions? You can install Oxygen 27.0 directly on your Desktop to avoid overwriting the 24.1 installation you are currently using. And after testing you can move it to the Trash.
I'll try to think of more ideas on my side...

Radu

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
I might have a physical mouse in storage. I'll try to find that and pull it out to test it.
And I'm willing to download the 27.0 and test it with a trial license.
However, this will take a couple of days. I'm pretty much done working on this today, and the next few days are very busy on other projects. I'll get back to you with more info before the end of the week. Sorry it can't be sooner!

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
Hi Radu, I just upgraded to Sequoia AND Oxygen XML 27.0 yesterday.
Today, I noticed that the context menu doesn't work anywhere in Oxygen.
This is a pretty big issue for me as it'll put a big crimp in my workflow.

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
To add to my previous post: I use a bluetooth Apple Magic Trackpad, in addition to the trackpad on my MacBook.
I open the context menu on either track pad by a light two-fingered tap.
It works everywhere else, except in Oxygen.

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
New discoveries.
I changed my trackpad settings for "Secondary click" from "Click with two fingers" to "Click in Bottom Left Corner" and it works.
It then occurred to me that perhaps only the two-fingered tap was broken.
I returned to "Click with two fingers" and did a physical two-fingered click. That works.
So a bit less of an issue, but still frustrating to have to click.

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
Hi Simon,
So quoting from your experienced symptoms:
We have an issue registered on our side, pasting its ID below:
EXM-55304 Right-click (using tap) no longer works with Oxygen on Mac
and we reported the issue to Java and it's also publicly available here:
https://bugs.openjdk.org/browse/JDK-8351611
And indeed the workaround is to do the physical two finger click.
Coming back to this particular discussion thread, I already asked the original user if they were doing two finger click and they were, so for this particular end user (who uses a bluetooth Apple Magic Trackpad) the physical two finger click does not work, meaning the original user's problem is not related to the problem you are reporting and that we know of.
Regards,
Radu

Yes, as a Java application when you are doing a light two finger tap we just are receiving no specific from the system to show the contextual menu.I returned to "Click with two fingers" and did a physical two-fingered click. That works.

Re: Missing Context Dropdown Menus
Hi Radu, I apologize. I guess I misunderstood what you were asking originally.
On further investigation, it does seem that my issue is the same as Simon's. The difference is between "tap" (which doesn't work) and "click" (which does work)
Sorry for giving you some wrong information. Now that I know the problem, I agree with Simon that it's less of an issue.

Hi,
Great, now we are all on the same page !
Unfortunately we cannot fix this from the Oxygen code, if the Java VM bug gets resolved we will try to incorporate a fix in Oxygen as soon as possible.

Radu
