Reclaim file extensions after install of MS Visual Studio
Hi,
I installed Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Pro, and it grabbed some of the file extensions that were pointing to OxygenXML: DTD, XSD for example.
I've looked through the menus and didn't find a way to reclaim these for Oxygen.
Is there a way to do this?
Thanks!

Hello,
There is no special action of the installed application oXygen for associating again the file extensions. You have to right-click on such a file in Windows Explorer and select Open With -> Choose Program, select oXygen in the list of applications and check the checkbox "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
Regards,
Sorin

Re: Reclaim file extensions after install of MS Visual Studio
I always like resurrecting old thread
I can't change the 'Opens with' for the XML files.
It's set to Internet Explorer and while I can press the 'Change' button and I can select Oxygen XML 8.1, the 'Always use...' check box is grayed out. So I select Oxygen and press OK and the Properties dialog still shows Internet Explorer.
Is there a policy that could be set to disallow me to change this association?

Hello,
A policy for disallowing a change of the application in the Properties dialog or from menu Tools -> Folder Options -> File Types cannot be set in Windows. The checkbox is greyed out but it is always selected which means that if you click OK in the Open With dialog opened from the Change button the new applications is permanently associated with the file type even if you click Cancel in the Properties dialog. If you select oXygen and press OK in the Open With dialog but the old associated application is still displayed instead of oXygen when you return in the Properties dialog then I think there is a problem with file associations on your Windows computer.

Re: Reclaim file extensions after install of MS Visual Studio
I tyhink you are right.
I have both Oxygen 8.1 and 8.2 installed
I can set the filetype to Oxygen 8.2 and that takes.
But if I set it to Oxygen 8.1, it immediately reverts back to IE 7.
I'm searching the registry now...
Thanks!
