8.2 File->Open dialogue is slow
I'm running Windows Vista Business and Oxygen 8.2. The open file dialogue is very slow to respond. I click on a particular local folder on a local drive and it'll take about 20 seconds to open it. I have been running the product for about 30 days and just purchased it recently. I did not notice this problem until I purchased and registered Oxygen. Anyone else have this issue?

Hello,
There is no difference of functionality between oXygen running with a trial license key and a permanent license key. Opening a folder in the file open dialog should work the same after you entered the permanent license key. Did the same folder with the same content work faster before? Do other applications open the same folder faster? How many files and folders does it contain? If the problem occurs only in oXygen please contact us to tell you how to enable logging in oXygen. We need a logging file generated on your computer to find the problem.
Regards,
Sorin

Re: 8.2 File->Open dialogue is slow
I have the same problem - though I've been using Oxygen 8.2 for a couple of years without problems.
Oxygen 8.2 is working fine generally, but the open file dialogue runs very very slowly - slow to open or close; slow to navigate the directory tree - and cpu usage of oxygen.exe goes up to 50% whenever a navigation is performed or whenever the dialogue is opened or closed. File navigation in all other programs is fine.
I suspect this is to do with the fact that I have a large number of xml files and oxygen is somehow trying to keep track of them, but I can't find any options to turn this feature off.

Hello,
If it has become a problem only recently the probable cause is a Java virtual machine bug which was introduced in Java 1.6.0_02 and was not fixed yet. Did you install lately a Java version more recent than 1.6.0_01?
Due to this JVM bug the file open dialog takes a long time for filling its right side panel (the panel with file names and folder names) when there is a large archive file on the Desktop or other folder (My Documents, My Recent Documents, etc) linked from the left side panel of the file open dialog or in the current folder having the content displayed in the right side panel of the dialog. It seems that in these cases the Java file open dialog opens the large archive and probably iterates through its contents even if the archive file is not in the folder listed in the right side panel of the file open dialog. The dialog should not have this delay even if the archive file was present in the folder listed in the right side panel.
Try to run Oxygen 8.2 with an Java version older than 1.6.0_02 (the first note of the Windows install procedure) or better download and install the Windows kit of Oxygen 8.2 that includes a JVM. Does that solve the delay problem of the file open dialog?

Sorin

Re: 8.2 File->Open dialogue is slow
Yep!
This was the source of the problem. I have reset my environment variables JAVA_HOME and JDK_HOME to C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_01 and this has fixed the problems I was having (NB for less techie people, these may need to be different on your machine). I shall decline any Java updates until they fix this bug!
Oxygen file browsing working fine again now. Thanks for the help!

Please note that changing only one variable is enough. The value of the variable JAVA_HOME is checked first and if the JVM executable file is not in that folder the value of JDK_HOME is checked too.

You are right. This was overkill on my part, but I always think that - with computers (and children) - the more times you tell them to do something the more likely they are to actually do it.

Re: 8.2 File->Open dialogue is slow
I'm having the same problem again - even though my JAVA_HOME and JDK_HOME env variables are set correctly. I tried upgrading to version 10 of oxygen - which came with its own jre, but I'm still having exactly the same problem. The XML editor works fine, but the file browser within Oxygen takes 57% of CPU and about a week to open the file browser dialogue and a similar amount of cpu/time whenever I use that dialogue. I can open xml files in oxygen from other file browsers and from Windows explorer without any problems.

Hello,
It seems the problem was fixed in Java 1.6.0_10. Please install a Java virtual machine 1.6.0_10 or 1.6.0_11, remove or comment the folder jre in [Oxygen10-install-folder] and make sure JAVA_HOME / JDK_HOME are not set or are set to the home folder of this new Java version. After that restart Oxygen 10. If that does not fix the file browser dialog please let us know and we can provide a preview of Oxygen 10.1 which will have a different file browser dialog that will solve this problem for any version of Java virtual machine.
