Eclipse 3.0.2 plugin support

Post by agreenblatt »

I'm currently using Eclipse 3.0.2. Due to constraints imposed by other plugins I'm using, I can't upgrade to Eclipse 3.1 just yet. Unfortunately, the 6.2 versions of the eclipse plugin do not seem to be compatible with 3.0.2. I have a licensed copy of version 6 with the maintenance pack. I need support for this configuration. Where can I get updates to the plugin that support Eclipse 3.0.2?

Hi,

We try to keep as much as possible the support for an old version of Eclipse but at some point we have to drop that. oXygen 6.1 still has support for Eclipse 3.0 and you can use that, it is available from our software archive page:
http://www.oxygenxml.com/software_archive.html
We always supported the latest stable release of Eclipse and we will continue to do so.

Best Regards,

Hi again,

I just want to add that the changes we made when we moved to 3.1 are not trivial, it is not something like we can just compile it against the Eclipse 3.0 libraries and that is all.

Fair enough. But in truth, significant non-backwards compatible updates should be relegated to full releases (e.g. a 4.0 release), not point releases.

Don't get me wrong; I enjoy using the product. It's just frustrating to have paid for a support contract and then not be able to use it.

You can always use version 6.2 with an Eclipse 3.1 (even in the same time with Eclipse 3.0 and oXygen 6.1) or you can always use the 6.2 standalone version. Please note also that point releases are free with a license, the maintenance pack covers major releases. As I said we try to support also older versions but when there are important changes that have to be done we have to move forward. Maybe you can ask those other plugins providers that are version 3.0 based to move to 3.1?

Happy holidays!
