problem with Arabic ligatures

Post by Saraï »

Hello,

When I insert or copy Arabic text, some ligatures appear, which is not unusual.
The problem appears if I try to select only one of the componant in the ligature (for example the ب in بحكمة or the ف in في): it is not possible (neither text mode nor author mode, version 17).
Does someone know this problem? Thanks for your help!

Best regards,
Sara

Hi Sara,

I'm not sure if I understand exactly your setup. Do you have an XML which has both English and Arabic mixed in?
I tested working with your sample words both in the Text editing mode (with bidirectional editing enabled) and in the Author editing mode and I could select the ligature character in both cases.
It may be possible though that when it comes to caret movement Oxygen does not behave exactly like a word processor.
For the Author editing mode in the Editor / Edit modes / Author / Caret navigation preferences page you can disable the Arrow keys move the caret in the reading direction checkbox in order to have the right and left arrows move right and left regardless of the reading order.

If you still have problems with this please give us more details, you can send us a sample document to support@oxygenxml.com and possibly tell us more about how you are trying to select the ligature.

Regards,
Radu

Dear Radu,

thank you for your answer. My apologies if I wasn’t clear - but it is also not clear to myself, where the problem comes from!
Yes it is XML, only with Arabic. I’m working with Mac.
The bidirectional mode is enabled, and I disabled the checkbox "Arrow keys move the caret in the reading direction", but the problem is still there. I send you an email with a sample.

Thank you very much for your help!
