WebHelp Generation is very very slow
Post by george0abitbol »
Hello
I've just downloaded Oxygen 16.1 and I'm trying to transform my current doc using the DocBook WebHelp Scenario. The transformation process is taking too long, actually it doesn't complete. The first part of the transformation scenario is going easy but then when it comes to the following stages it is very slow :
[xslt] Processing C:\DocHelpTest\ds\en\mydoc\out\webhelp\Preface.html to C:\DocHelpTest\ds\en\mydoc\out\webhelp\temp_modified_pages\Preface.html
[xslt] Loading stylesheet C:\Users\john\Documents\docbookWebHelpCusto\xsl\com.oxygenxml.webhelp\xsl\images.xsl
My book is pretty long (200 PDF pages, 16 files) but it did not take as long with oxygen version 12 and 14 (did not try in version 16.0).
On the other hand, transforming with the "WebHelp (old)" scenario is pretty fast but I want to use the brand new webhelp.
Does anybody experience the same problem with DocBook WebHelp generation in version 16+ ?
I'm launching a generation process tonight and will see tomorrow what the result is...
Thanks

Hello,
It would be even better if you could send us a set of sample files for replicating the issue: a zip archive with one or more Docbook XML files and the requisite image files.
What image files are included in the Docbook XML files that take a long time in the images step of the Webhelp transformation? What image formats are they? Can you send us some sample image files which are included in the Docbook XML files for which this images step is slow?george0abitbol wrote:The first part of the transformation scenario is going easy but then when it comes to the following stages it is very slow :

Thanks for your response sorin
Actually, I've just figured out why it took so long.
I do not have admin rights on my machine but I have a local admin account.
By default, Oxygen is run with no admin rights.
When I run Oxygen as an administrator on my machine, then the issue does not occur anymore and the generation process completes as expected.
Thanks anyway for your quick response.
George

Hi George,
I suppose the Oxygen instance running with no admin rights does not have read access to the Oxygen install directory or to some subdirectories of the Oxygen install directory, where for example some schema files (DTD, XML Schema, etc) are stored which are necessary in the transformation? That would explain why it can't complete when run with no admin rights. I think no read access to the Program Files directory (in which the Oxygen install directory is located) would be an excessive restriction.
Anyway if you get the error again please let us know and we can continue the investigation together.
