GUI oddity in Oxygen 20.0
Post by martindholmes »
Hi there,
I upgraded to Oxygen 20.0 yesterday, and every since, I've been noticing painfully slow behaviour in the Project view. If I right-click on (for example) an image file, it can take up to 20 seconds for the right-click menu to appear. It's also slow to appear for HTML files; a bit quicker for XML files, but still much worse than 19.1 was. Has anyone else seen this behaviour?
I'm on Linux Ubuntu 17.10 with Gnome, and I'm giving Oxygen 8GB of memory.
Cheers,
Martin

Hello,
We have tested Oxygen v20 on Ubuntu 17.10 with Gnome (default), but did not notice any slow downs.
It could be a issue between Java and your graphics subsystem.
What distribution of Oxygen did you install? Is it the Linux 64 bit (sh installer) or the "All platforms" (.tar.gz archive)?
Do you still have v19.1 so you can compare the two?
Regards,
Adrian

It's the 64-bit version. I think I've discovered the cause, though:
I only see this slowdown in a large project which is hosted on GitHub, when I have the Git plugin installed. I've now removed that plugin and I'm no longer seeing the issue.
Is it possible that the Git plugin is doing a lot of processing in response to actions in the project window?
Cheers,
Martin

Hi Martin,
We made another release for the Git project (version 1.2.10) in which we tried to fix the project view contextual menu lag. Please install the new version and let me know if you still experience the slowdown.
Best regards,
Alex

I just tested the new version, and unfortunately it seems to be worse; the popup menu never appears at all -- I waited for several minutes.

Hi Martin,
I'm sorry for going from bad to worse... Is Oxygen frozen during this indefinite period? If Oxygen is not frozen then I assume there is a hidden exception that brakes the menu creation. To catch that exception you could try launching Oxygen from the command line (you can such launchers inside Oxygen's installation directory). Try to present the menu again and check the console for any exception.
Best regards,
Alex
