Problem with characters ?

Post by infassms »

Hello,

I've got a question : why when i create a new text file (or xml file) with any application (wordpad, vi, jedit...) where I have specials characters inside (like é °...) i can't read these characters with oxygen v6 (i see a square) ?
I've try to change the font and the input non xml encoding but nothing has change.
I've try to create a new file with oxygen with a ° inside and after to open it with an other editor (vim), i see a special character before the ° : Â.

If someone has an idea about that... thanks for your help. When i work all the time with oxygen i've no problem but if i want to share my file...

Bye.

Hello,

That's strange  Setting the same encoding used to create the file in other application than <oXygen/> from Options - Preferences - Global - Encoding for non XML files and setting a font able to display the special characters from Options - Preferences - Editor / Aspect should be enough. Please post the content of a short text file in the form of bytes, like: 32 76 A4 BF 4E etc. or send such a file to support at oxygenxml dot com. Also specify the encoding set for non XML files, the font set in Preferences - Editor / Aspect and what characters you expect to see in <oXygen/>'s editor panel.

The same answer: please post the file content as a sequence of bytes or send the file to support at oxygenxml dot com.

I didn't post the original question but since I have the exact same problem, I might as well post what you requested.

It's an ASP page that we use as an entry point to call our application. It also stores a generic "system error" message that is displayed when something goes wrong.

The message is bilingual and in Oxygen, the french characters displays incorrectly.

Like the original poster, I tried changing the encoding and the font but to no avail.

When you view the file in Oxygen, the french characters shows up as small squares.

Here's how the error looks like in a browser after saving the file with Oxygen :
On a mis le site Web de l'information sur le march du travail (IMT) hors fonction de faon provisoire afin d'y effectuer des oprations d'entretien ou on prouve actuellement des difficults techniques. Nous vous prions de nous excuser de tout contretemps que cela pourrait vous occasionner. Veuillez ressayer plus tard.
Currently, Oxygen is set to use encoding 8859-1, which is the same encoding we use in our XML files (so i know the encoding is correct :p)

I will send the actual file to your support team with a link to this thread in the email.
