Resolving DITA cross references, content references, etc.

Post by markpeters.work »

Is there an option in XML Author to resolve cross references, content references, etc. in DITA topics or across topics in a map? My team frequently renames topic files names, which breaks references.

I don't see such an option described in the user guide, but I wanted to check with forum members before I submit a feature request.

Thanks,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Can you be more specific?
Do you need a sort of "Validate" operation on the DITA Map which should check if conrefs and xrefs are still pointing to valid targets?
We have plans for such an action, hopefully in Oxygen 12.

Of course the DITA Open Toolkit transformation does a much better job as it checks these references after the DITAVAL filters have been applied but its errors indeed are cryptic.

Hi Radu,

Thanks. You understood my question perfectly. It's good to hear that reference validation is planned, perhaps for Oxygen 12.

Hi,

Just to update the forum thread, in Oxygen 12 or newer there is an additional toolbar button called "Validate and Check For Completeness" in the DITA Maps Manager which does a lot of consistency checks in all the DITA Map's hierarchy. Here is a video demonstration:
