Printouts, read-outs and other system output

When a computer system, application or hardware equipment produces some output intended for reading by a user, the output is described in DITA using the systemoutput element.

The system output (systemoutput) element is used to describe the display or read-out from the device, application or system being documented. The systemoutput element is similar to the msgph element in that both elements describe the output from a system. The msgph element specifically describes a system message; systemoutput is less specific.

The systemoutput element should also be used when describing snippets of text from a printout from a computer application or system, such as words on the printed page.

Example:
<p>Second and subsequent level numbers in a nested ordered
list are typically rendered following the format of
<systemoutput>1. a. I.</systemoutput>.</p>
