How to Extract Parts and Chapters as Individual PDF Files
Note:
This topic is only applicable for the DITA Map PDF - based on HTML5 & CSS
transformation scenario.
There are two ways to tell the processor to extract some topics as individual PDF files:
- Using the
args.css.param.pdf-split-modeparameter: This option allows you to create individual PDF files for each part or chapter of a publication. - Using the
@outputclass="pdf-split"attribute: This option allows you to create separate PDF files only for selected topics.
Remember:
- Only parts, chapters and topics with an
@idattribute will be extracted. - Individual PDFs will be generated alongside the main PDF.
- Extracted PDFs will preserve the styling of the original document.
Tip:
Generating additional PDFs may produce numerous files. To
keep the output directory organized, it is recommended to disable the
args.keep.output.debug.files parameter.Since each part or chapter is independent and can be read separately, the
page, figure, and table counters should restart at the beginning of each chapter. You can
control this behavior using the args.css.param.numbering parameter, setting
its value to deep-chapter-scope.
Beyond numbering, it is possible to enforce the creation of a chapter-specific table of contents.
