Oxygen Prevents WTP from Seeing Tomcat Started

I am using Eclipse 3.3 and WTP, all freshly installed using Europa. I have oXygen 8.2.0 installed via Update Manager.

If oXygen is enabled, then when I start a Tomcat 5.5 server from within Eclipse, Eclipse/WTP is somehow unable to detect when the server has completely started. This interferes with some key functionality of WTP -- namely, the ability to detect changed files in a web application and automatically republish them. In fact, it makes WTP somewhat useless for my purposes.

If I disable oXygen (via Help > Software Updates > Manage Configuration) and restart, then this problem goes away -- a Tomcat 5.5 server started via Eclipse/WTP is detected as "Started" and notices when files have changed.

I have inquired at the eclipse.webtools newsgroup and they say this is likely an oXygen problem. Here is a link to the thread:

http://www.eclipse.org/newsportal/artic ... ools#14473

My exact version information:
* Eclipse Project SDK 3.3.0v20070607-7M7J-Blolz-OcxWxvWAPSfLPqevO
* Web Standard Tools (WST) Project 2.0.0.v200706041905-7C-18k0IWJZ93WDDJIQ60nUjTdJp
* oXygen XML Editor and XSLT Debugger 8.2.0

Please let me know what diagnostic information I can provide to help remedy this. Right now it's a serious problem for me because I have to enable/disable oXygen and restart Eclipse all the time, to be able to use both Eclipse and oXygen.

Thanks!

P.S. As you will see in that thread, I did originally have this problem with WTP 1.5.4 on Eclipse 3.3. When I upgraded to Europa, I did not see this problem again until I (re-)installed oXygen.

Hi Noel,

Please make sure first that you are using the oXygen plugin for Eclipse 3.3, see http://www.oxygenxml.com/download.html# ... structions for the update URL that you should have used.

Apart from that the only thing we can think of that may cause an interaction is the fact that oXygen installs a protocol handler for HTTP. Please contact us at our support email address (support at oxygenxml dot com) and we will provide you a link to a build that disables the handler for the HTTP protocol.

Best Regards,
George

Hi George,

Thanks for your quick reply. I did verify that I am using the 3.3 plugin -- just to verify this I even re-installed all of Eclipse and oXygen once more. The behavior seemed to disappear for a few hours, but then returned. I will write to you now for that link you mentioned to disable the HTTP handler.

Thanks,
Noel

Hello,

The new build of the oXygen plugin 8.2 for Eclipse 3.3 available on the Download page fixes the problem of the HTTP protocol handler.

Sorin

This problem is also seen with Eclipse 3.2.2. and WTP 1.5.4.

Will a new build me made of Oxygen for Eclipse 3.2 that fixes this problem?

Thanks,

Zé

Hi,

Please find below an update site URL for oXygen 8.2 for Eclipse 3.2 that does not add the HTTP protocol handler:

http://www.oxygenxml.com/update/oxygen8 ... P/site.xml

Please test that and let us know how it works.

Best Regards,
George

Tested with Eclipse 3.2.2 with WTP 1.5.5 and the problem is gone.

Thanks!
