The status attribute

The position of a topic or content element in the development life cycle is recorded in the status attribute.

Most DITA content elements include the status attribute. This attribute makes most sense when applied to the top-level topic element, such as concept, task and reference elements, and you can use it to record the status or progress of the information in its life cycle.

Valid values for the status attribute are:
  • new
  • changed
  • deleted
  • unchanged

Some authoring tools may highlight topics with different status attribute values in different ways, and some publishing tools may also take advantage of the attribute values.
