File names
Having predictable, consistent file names makes it easier for DITA authors to locate topic and other files in a repository.
When choosing file names, observe the following guidelines.
- Use descriptive, short names, in lower case.
- Use alphanumeric characters.
- Prefer complete words to abbreviations.
- Do not use spaces (use underscores rather than spaces between words).
- Prefix the file name with a character identifying the information type (c, t, r), separated by an underscore character.
- Be consistent.
An example of a file name for a task topic with a title of
Refreshing the cache
is:
t_refreshing_the_cache.dita
The use of descriptive names and underscore separators aims to enhance human readability and identification.
