Thanks. I have been getting strange errors. But problem was that main 
repo was on branch "master" while submodule used more fashionable "main" 
branch. That confused Git connector (it has been referencing wrong 
branch when calling Gitlab API for fetching submodule metadata). Once I 
have unified branch names everything works smooth.
