Expierences with inconsistent arabic Unicode?

Post by vulpesvulpes »

Hey!

i´ve read about some possible inconsistent forms of presentation at arabic characters. There are multiple ways of encoding seemingly similar arabic characters with different code points that depend on the operating system and the language of the keyboard used for input.

Is there somebody who has gained experiences at this issue? Does it matter to the Author mode or the further handling process? :?:

Many thanks in advance!

Hi,

Usually on the Oxygen forum most end users receive notifications only on the topics that they post or contribute to.
Ideally if you want to ask the Oxygen users community you should register on our Oxygen mailing list and ask there:

Coming back to your question, if you have two or more code points which correspond to the same visual glyph (arabic symbol in this case) then indeed it does matter what code point you use. It matters because the font used for rendering the content in the Author visual editing mode (Preferences->Fonts page) or for publishing to PDF may have support only for rendering certain code points as visual symbols.
In the XML itself (if it's UTF-8 encoded) you can save an codepoint but it's a matter of having a font which can render that code point as a visual symbol.
