Is Enterprise edition needed for DITA documentation

We're evaluating DITA editors for our company. If we will be using oXygen strictly to develop user documentation with the DITA schema, is the Enterprise version of oXygen necessary? It looks like it just allows XML data from commercial databases to be accessed, but this does not seem like something that will be used for creating end-user documentation. Am I correct in this?

Hello,

Yes, you are correct.
The only functional difference between the Professional and Enterprise editions of <oXygen/> XML is that the Enterprise one also offers support for commercial databases (Mark Logic, IBM DB2, Oracle 10.2, X-Hive/DB, Microsoft SQL Server) and Documentum CMS integration.

There are three different types of oXygen XML.
- oXygen XML Editor is our flagship product, containing both authoring and development support (Editor = Author + Developer);
- oXygen XML Developer is specially designed for developers (XML schema/ XSLT/ XQuery development and debugging);
- oXygen XML Author is based on visual editing and was specially created for the content authors (keeps only the relevant authoring features of the Editor). Comes with support for common document types like DITA, Docbook, TEI, etc.

Regards,
Costin

Thanks. Is Enterprise needed for integration with other CMS's (besides Documentum)?

As far as I now, the Enterprise edition should not be strictly necessary for oXygen integration with other CMSs, if the respective CMSs are not using a commercial database from oXygen.
