Insert Link action

The Insert Link action bundled together with DocBook framework is really under developed. :( When you insert a link there is no dialog to enter the URL. You have to go into edit attributes, find the right attribute and then enter the URL. That's a lot more actions than it needs to be. Why can't this work like a Olink action? A dialog should pop in where they chose local/remote link and then enter the url using standard browse button. For remote URLs of file objects it could use the standard browse button and fill in xlink:href attribute. For local links it would be nice to see interface similar to xinclude dialog where you can chose an element id that will fill in linkend attribute.

Our users are really unhappy with default "Insert Link" action. I am probably going to implement this on my own.

Hi Mike,

We usually make improvements based on user feedback (this is why we improved the dialog for inserting OLinks).
We'll try to improve the Link toolbar action in a future version.
If you make improvements in this area and you want to share them with us, they would be a good starting point for our enhancements.

Radu

Just wondering if the functionality mentioned in this post is coming soon. Are you planning to add it in one of your future releases?

Hi Mike,

For now we have scheduled for version 14 (next year in summer probably) to make improvements to the linking actions in Docbook.

Radu

14 is out. Where are the promised improvements? The linking works just like before.

Hi Mike,

I only said the issue was scheduled for version 14. We have lots of issues which we want to complete in each release and most of the times there is not enough time to fix part of them.
I will only say that a feature will be available in a certain release if it has already been fixed.
Could I get directly in touch with you in order to establish a functionality for this action when we decide to fix it?

Regards,
Radu

Hi Mike,

Oxygen 14.1 was just released and it should allow insertion of internal and external links more easily using the improved actions.
