Modify "Read Only Content" message.

Hello,

Currently when users attempt to make a change to an entity section within a document the message, "Read-only content Cannot edit inside read-only content." is displayed. How can I customize the displayed message? I found the AuthorDocumentFilter class, but that doesn't seem to contain the methods I need. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Jacob

Hello Jacob,

I don't see a way to customize the message through our API. May I ask you why are you trying to do this, and how would you rephrase the message?

All the best wishes,

Hello Sorin,

Thank you for responding to my post. We are using Oxygen Web Author as an interface for internal document reviewers. The documents these reviewers are accessing and or lightly modifying are composed of entity chapters inserted in a collective "build" file. These reviewers are not necessarily familiar with structured documentation and often mistake the "Read-only content Cannot edit inside read-only content" error as a user permissions issue. I would like to alter the response message to instruct the reviewer toward clicking the entity icon to open the entity file in a new editable browser tab.

I hope this helps better explain our case.

Thank you,
Jacob

Hello,

We added an improvement request to improve the error message. We'll update this forum post when we have something implemented.

Best,
Cristian

Hi,

I just wanted to let you know that we already updated the message that appears when a user tries to edit the read-only content which comes from expanded references. Starting with Web Author version 19.1 (that will be released soon) the message indicates that the user must use the "Edit Reference" action from the contextual menu to edit that content.

Best Regards,
Mihaela
