WordML: Set heading number explicitly

I'm looking for some help with WordML. Suggestions for a different forum are welcome if this isn't the place to ask.
I am not using FOP, just generating WordML directly from some XSLT 2.0 transformations on our source XML files.
Microsoft Word allows automatically numbered headings, such as, 1.1, 1.2.1, 1.2.2, etc.
Using WordML, is it possible to force the heading number to any number I want?
I'd like to specify, for example, 1.3.2, then 1.4.1.1, then 1.4.1.2, then 1.5.1.
It would also be great if this explicit numbering was also used by the Table of Contents.
Any ideas?
Thanks, Mike
