Beginner MSXML Query.

I know that there are different versions of MSXML up to the current 6.1 (6.0 with SP1) and I have been doing some research about the different versions, but am struggling with one basic question:
Are all the versions backward compatible with each other, i.e. if I only have the latest v6.1 on my system, will that mean that I don't need to ever install any earlier versions of this, i.e. 4.0, 5.0 etc.. ??

Hello,
The current version of oXygen (8.2) supports only the MSXML 3.0, MSXML 4.0, MSXML.NET 1.0 and MSXML.NET 2.0 processors. If you want to use one of these processors in oXygen it must be installed on your Windows computer. If you have version 5.0 or 6.0 installed this does not include the version 3.0 or the version 4.0 of the processor.

Thanks for the reply.
My query has nothing whatsoever to do with oXygen, more a general question about MSXML.
So are you saying that if I only have MSXML 6.1 on my PC, then I may find programs that need an earlier version to be also installed?

Yes, that is right. Some applications may need an earlier version of MSXML which you must install if now you have only version 6.1 installed.

Are any of the versions fully backward-compatible with all previous versions, i.e. would MSXML4 run MSXML3 software etc..?
