Cleaning up a project

I have no idea which category of question this falls under, but since I edit and publish dita content I thought I'd start here.
I do not know if this is an Oxygen Editor, Author, or Developer question. I frankly get all three products confused. For years, I just managed everything in Editor. Everything was working pretty well until I upgraded to version 22. Now I have so many problems, I don't even know where to begin. But I thought I'd start with the most basic and go from there.
For several versions of our documentation (chm file and pdf), I have stored everything in one directory. I've kept everything organized using ditamap. I am not certain that this is the "correct" way, but it's seemed the most intuitive. I have no idea how to set up a project file.
One of my problems (out of many) is that it seems that in this directory are now an untold number of files that are no longer in use. They could be xml, dita, or even image files. My question is, is there a feature in Oxygen that can show me which files are no longer in use, so I can clear them out of the directory?
This is actually one of many problems I have to solve, but it seems like I can't solve any of them until I narrow this part down first.
Thanks much!
