One of our writers gets the error message "There is no valid reference available at current location." whenever she right-clicks the first node in the DITA Maps Manager and chooses Append Child. The message happens even when different dita maps are currently loaded that are located in different folders. The message does not occur when she does Append Child for any of the other nodes, nor does the message occur for Insert Before or Insert After. She is running Oxygen XML Author 21.1. I haven't been able to find any references to this error message on Google or here at the Oxygen site. Can anyone suggest what the problem might be or how we can debug it further? Thanks for any suggestions.

This kind of problem might happen if you have a bookmap containing a backmatter. The "Append child" action called on the root of the DITA Map will attempt to insert a topic reference at the very end of the DITA Map, after the backmatter. And you cannot insert topicrefs after the backmatter.
So instead she should right click a chapter and work with the "Insert before" or "Insert after" actions.
