We have significant constraints on content length. One of our authors noticed that the word-count utility includes all words in a topic, including draft-comments. Is there any way to control this? It seems that draft-comments should be excluded from word counts.

You can go to the Styles toolbar button, open the drop down menu, and select + Hide draft comments. Then the action will only count the words of the remaining text. And, as a general rule, you can always add some alternate styles to hide every element that bothers you. You can read more about this at https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... tyles.html.

That seems to work with Oxygen 20.1 but not with 17.1.

Oh, yes, I can confirm this improvement has been made starting with oXygen 18.

If writing code sounds like an acceptable idea, you could develop your own custom Author operation (https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... HowTo.html) or maybe create an Author action based on JSOperation (https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... tions.html).

That's okay. I'm no developer, and we won't need to have the fix in place for 17.1. That's just the version our content developers are currently testing.
