Multi monitor support

Oxygen does not work well with multi monitor environments like there are used in our company by nearly all developers. Different views and/or documents should be placeable on either the left or right monitor like in Visual Studio.

These videos are pretty good examples:

Keep on the good work!

Hello,

Usually this issue is caused by an integration problem between the display subsystem of the Java virtual machine that runs Oxygen and the video driver that is installed in the operating system. We fixed a similar dual monitor display problem in an older version of Oxygen but such issues seem to come back.

What Oxygen version do you use? What are the views that cannot be moved to the second monitor? What video cards and video drivers are installed on the computers where the Oxygen views cannot be split to two monitors?

Sorin

Hi!

I'm using a DELL VOSTRO 400 (ATI RADEON HD 2600 XT 256MB GDDR4) and Oxygen Editor 11.2. Neither documents than palettes can be moved outside the maximized program window on the other screen.

The editor panels cannot be moved outside the Oxygen window in the current Oxygen version. Only views and toolbars can do that. We will consider extending this feature to the editor panels.

Has this problem been resolved in newer releases? Multi monitor support is fairly weak in 11.1

Hello,

Views and toolbars can be moved on any monitor outside of the Oxygen window, but editors are still docked inside the window and cannot be made floating and moved around (Oxygen v14.0).
We have made some tests with floating editors, but things are a bit more complicated than initially anticipated, so this feature request is still being evaluated.

Note that if you have multiple monitors, you can resize the Oxygen window to span across them and then arrange views, toolbars and editors as needed. Also, while editors cannot be moved outside the Oxygen window, you can still dock them as tiles in any combination, so you can have two or more editors side by side.

The User Manual explains this behavior:
User Manual: Dockable Views and Editors

Also, there is a video demonstration showing how docking works for the views (it's similar for the editors, but without the floating/auto hide abilities):
Dockable and Floating Views

I've also explained here the editor docking behavior:
Tile Editors Horizontally or Vertically: Enable to rearrange edited files (by mouse)

Adrian

The lack of multi-monitor support for editor panels makes it difficult to debug indented stylesheets on a laptop. The source XML, XSL, and FO output windows become very narrow, thus requiring manual resizing or going in and out of source/debug perspectives.

(I can use my iPad as an external monitor, but it's kind of a kludge and requires me to jump off the public WiFi at Starbucks and other similarly configured Hotspots. I have to create an ad-hoc network between my laptop and the iPad.)
