Opening the file location of images + Refactoring image references

Hello,

I would like to open file locations of images used in a topic directly from the context menu.

This would save a lot of clicking/copy and pasting which is currently needed to reach the file location manually. And it would assure to edit the correct image when working on different projects on their own development branches which contain copies of the same images.

Furthermore, it would be great if I could rename (refactor) image files names from the context menu, while automatically updating the references in the topic.

Thanks,
Ben

Hello Ben,

Thank you for the feedback! I added two new feature requests: EXM-43886 for the image refactoring and EXM-43885 for showing the location of the selected image.

Right now, for image refactoring you could use the Master Files support in DITA (https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/versions/ ... files.html). I do have to admit that sometimes it may be a bit difficult to identify the right image file in the Project view... But if you do identify it, the refactoring + Master Files should save you quite some time.

All the best wishes,

Thanks for adding it as a feature request. We will have a look at Master Files. We haven't done that yet.

Hello,

Just wanted to let you know that EXM-43885 (going to the location of the selected image) has been resolved in oXygen 22, which was released yesterday.

Best wishes,
Sorin C.

Hi Sorin, all,

This indeed makes editing figures easier - now I can open the location of the file directly. However, I still need to find the file (difficult if there's many!) then open it in the graphics program of my choice.

Is there a way to directly open the image in a graphics program, either the system default program or something configured in the project?

Hi Chris,

The "Open image" action from the contextual menu opens the image in the default system application.
The "Show in Explorer" action also selects the image in the file explorer.
