Toggle between editing modes?

Post by psbentley »

Hi all,

I had a user ask if there's a keyboard shortcut to toggle between Author and Text modes in Oxygen 17 and I was unable to find a way. I tried setting up the same shortcut for Author and Text thinking it might switch between the two, but that didn't work.

Any advice? Does a method of doing this already exist?

Thanks!

Hi Peyton,

There is no shortcut key set out-of-the-box for switching between different editing modes.
However, the users could indeed define their own in the oXygen menu Options > Menu Shortcut Keys.

Type "edit mode" in the search filter from the shortcut keys preferences window to filter the actions and show only the edit mode related ones.
Then one could set the preferred shortcut keys / combinations for any of the 4 editing modes (Author/Design/Grid/Text).

That does not work as a toggle. You need to set a distinct shortcut key for each mode and invoke the one you want to get to that mode.

BTW, the need for a shortcut key implies frequent use. Why does the user need to switch so frequently between Author and Text mode? Why not stick with Author mode and configure it for what is needed?
In other words, is there something that the user needs to see in Author mode that isn't visible by default, or why switch to Text mode?

I just checked in with her and she was working in an outline situation. Apparently she didn't know that she could see some code in Author mode, which I will show her. Hopefully that will help her enough.

Thanks!
