New keyboard bug in 12.1

Hi there,

After upgrading to 12.1, I've noticed a very annoying and persistent bug with regard to keyboard input. Whenever I summon a dialog box (for instance with Control + F for Find, or Control + E for "tag selected text"), if I start typing a little too quickly, before the dialog box is fully instantiated, the keyboard ceases to work. Whatever I do after that, I can't type anything into that dialog box again; I have to dismiss it with the mouse and start again. It's especially annoying because it afflicts me when I'm working really efficiently and quickly.

Has anyone else seen this? I'm using Ubuntu Lucid 64-bit, and I see the same problem whether I use the JRE that ships with oXygen or the up-to-date JRE from the Ubuntu repos.

Cheers,
Martin

Hello,

I am sorry but we cannot reproduce the problem. Although we tried to type with maximum speed and open also some dialog boxes in-between using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+F and Ctrl+E without slowing down on typing, the keyboard keeps working. Do you have some special effects enabled in the window manager (like "liquid flexible" windows, "rolling up" the window frame up to the title bar, etc)? That may have some side effects on keeping the keyboard focus in the dialog box (and in the Oxygen window), it is surely JRE version independent and may help us reproduce the problem.

Sorin

I have some Compiz effects enabled ("wobbly windows" for instance), and I'm using the NVIDIA proprietary graphics driver (it's a dual-monitor setup). But I don't have this problem in any other Java apps as far as I can tell.

If no-one else has reported it, though, and you can't reproduce it, there must be something odd about my setup. I'll just learn to wait a bit before typing.

Cheers,
Martin

Hi,

Compiz was the source of many problems for Java applications at one time.
Could you please disable the Compiz effects and check if the problem still reproduces in Oxygen?

Adrian
