Hi
I am working on the XHTML transformation type. I want the TOC, Previous, Next, and Back links on every topic header in the project. Is there any option to generate it automatically when I open topic than typring/copying everytime?

Also, Is it required to type/copy the metadata when I create a each topic in the project or is there any option to generate it? Please help.

Regards
Julie

I do not see a special parameter in the DITA map transformation for generating these links for each topic. I think more experienced DITA users can help you with that.

What metadata do you talk about? Please give an example.

Hi Sorin
Sorry for the later reply. I am talking about the author name, created date, reviewed date etc. Is it possible for these data to be generated in all the topics instead of typing it topic by topic?
I would also like to know whether there is any option to include pop-ups in the topics. Please help
Regards
Julie

Hello,

The metadata included in the prolog element, that is author name, copyright, creation date, revision date, etc is not published by default in the output generated with DITA Open Toolkit and there is no parameter for that. It is the same with all output types (XHTML, PDF, etc). I think you have to customize the DITA OT stylesheets for that. You should ask about such a customization on the DITA users mailing list.

Do you mean popups in a browser that displays the XHTML output of your DITA document? I think you can do that with JavaScript code in a CSS attached to the XHTML output with the parameter args.css that you set in the dialog for editing your DITA transformation scenario, the Parameters tab of the dialog. You have to write a CSS that displays the popups that you want and set the CSS in the DITA transformation scenario for XHTML output with the parameter args.css.

Hi Sorin
I am sorry that I could not make it clear it you. I would like to know is there any option in DITA to include short description as a pop-up about a specific term in the content. When the user move the cursor, a pop-up should open with a brief description and should be able to open the section that provides a detailed explanation about the term if required. Is this possible?

Regards
Julie

Hello Julie,

If you hover the mouse pointer over an element a popup is displayed automatically with the annotation of that element from the schema of the edited XML document. It is the same annotation that is presented with the content completion popup. It can be any XML document associated with a schema (W3C XML Schema, RELAX NG, DTD), not just a DITA XML document. For a DITA document the popup displays the annotation of the element from the DITA DTD. If the popup is not displayed automatically on your computer when you hover the mouse pointer over an element please check the option Show annotations as tooltip available from Options -> Preferences -> Editor -> Content Completion -> Annotations. The popup is displayed only if the option is enabled (by default it is enabled).

The same annotation is displayed in the lower panel of the Model view for the element in which the cursor is located in the editing area. You make the view visible from menu Perspective -> Show View -> Model.

Sorin
