PDF Export Issues: Unicode Characters Not Displaying and Images Missing

Hello everyone,

I’m fairly new to working with DITA‑OT and Oxygen, and I’ve run into some issues when generating PDF output from my DITA XML files. I’m hoping someone here might have some advice.

I’m currently using Oxygen XML Editor 26.1 together with DITA‑OT 4.0.2 (official PDF plugin). The problem is that my exported PDFs don’t display correctly:

Characters are not rendered properly. Some letters appear missing or are replaced with incorrect glyphs.

Certain embedded images fail to appear in the final PDF, even though they show up normally in Oxygen’s built‑in preview.

I’ve tried adjusting the font settings, switching PDF plugins, and even experimenting with different font families, but I still can’t get full Unicode support to work reliably. The image issue also seems inconsistent, and I’m not sure what’s causing it.

Hello,

Default DITA-OT embedded in Oxygen 26.1 is 4.1.2 not 4.0.2, could you confirm you are using this version?
Could you also indicate which PDF scenario you are using: HTML5 & CSS or XSL-FO?

When you mention "characters are not rendered properly", are they displayed as '#' or as another character?
Are the non-displayed images local files or remote? Does they have something in common? (such as their extension)

Regards,
Julien
