Hello,

one of our Japanese colleagues made us aware of an issue with the search function in our WebHelp for Japanese. Words that use the dash-like symbol "ー" do not show up in the search results. Wiki: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ch%C5%8Donpu

Here are some examples that do not appear in the search results when searching for those words:

エディター (editor)
メーター (meter)
サーバー (server)

Is there a way to teach the Japanese search certain words?

We managed to reproduce this behavior based on the example you provided, so we appreciate your feedback!
I logged this in our internal issues tracking system, so our development team will investigate further.

We will update this thread when/if we will implement an improvement in the WebHelp search engine.

Just to update the thread, version 21.1 of oXygen XML has been released and in the current version WebHelp Responsive uses Kuromoji JavaScript implementation of Japanese morphological analyzer.

You can download the latest version v21.1, from our web site:

Hi,

I need to push this thread again because this search issue still exists in Oxygen 23.1.

When searching in the WebHelp, you can find some words with the Chōonpu dash but not every word. Maybe you could investigate this again. If you have more questions about this, I will try to support you by asking my Japanese colleagues.
