Combine and dead keys issue with oXygen 18.1 and Ubuntu 16.04

Hello,
I have recently started encountering a problem with the dead keys or the combine key while entering text in oXygen. For instance, when I type ^ + e, I get ^e instead of ê, when I type combine+'+o, I get 'o instead of ó, etc.
I guess it has something to do with input method or Java, but it does not appear in any other application I often use. Is there a way to avoid that (copying and pasting accentuated characters is really not a very good solution) ?
Best regards,
JBC

Hi,

First, can you please clarify what you call "combine key"? Is it "AltGr" (right Alt)?

Oxygen is a Java application, so my guess is that's why you only encounter this only with Oxygen.
Assuming this has worked before for you (you mentioned "I have recently started encountering a problem"), what did you change (update Java, or Oxygen or the OS)?

Adrian

Many thanks for your reply.
The combine (or compose) key is a key available in Ubuntu systems, that you can attribute to one of the positions of your keyboards, and allows you to input special characters, such as ò (by using combine + ` + o), or č (combine + c + c), etc.
It is documented here : https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ComposeKey

Actually, I have recently migrated from an Ubuntu 14.04, with the repository version of Java and an outdated version of oXygen, to an Ubuntu 16.04, with oXygen 18.1 and Java 8 openJDK, so it will be hard for me to locate the source of the change.

Hi,

We tested with Ubuntu 16+Oxygen 18.1 and "German (dead grave acute)" input source. It seemed to work fine.
What Input source are you using (check in "Text Entry")?
What compose key do you have set?

Adrian

Hi,
My compose key is caps lock. The problem is also present with dead keys (like ^ or ¨).
My «Source d'entrée» in Ubuntu is the keyboard «Français (variante)», but I have also tried with the «English (US, international variant)», and now with the German variant you mentioned, and encoutered the same issue.
Is there a setting inside oXygen that could be different ?

Hi,

I have tested the same as you, also set Caps Lock as the Compose key, but in our tests it worked as expected.
CapsLock+'+o => ó
Does this always fail for you, or it works for a while and fails later?

Could you please also send us a problem report (Help > Report Problem) so we see more details about your setup?

Regards,
Adrian
