Slow performance in Eclipse 3.1 (ox 6.2)

I am frequently finding that when using ox 6.2 in eclipse 3.1 on OSX 10.3 JDK 1.4.2_08 (1.5GHz, 1.5GB ram, 1GB allocated to eclipse jvm), I get the Java eclipse Java VM going up to 100% CPU and locking there, the only way to fix is to save all the files and exit eclipse, loosing all the state information of the session (svn commit history etc)
Initially I though it was something else, but after living with this fo 2 months, I am convinced that it is oxygen. It only happens after editing 6 or 7 xml docs. It happens when there are no other java apps runing, no debuggging session. It even happens with an almost empty project in resources view.
I think it is something to do with the auto learn capability of oxygen when it doesnt have a xsd or DTD to determine syntax
