Error message: Cannot insert text inside read-only context

Hello,
I was trying to use the track changes feature. Apparently I did something wrong because I can no longer edit my files in author mode.

I get the
cannot insert text inside read-only context
tooltip message.
Odd enough, I am able to edit my files in the text view.
How can I revert this? I tried closing and reopening the application, with no success.
Regards
Carole

Hi Carole,
keeping the author from editing read-only conent is a pure author-mode-feature that can be set within the css. So it's not surprising that you can still edit this in text-mode.
To understand the problem you need to provide more information where exactly you're trying to edit text content. You could also use the css inspector (new to oXygen 17.0) to see where (or if) the read-only-mode ("-oxy-editable: false;") has been set.

Hello,
I did not change the CSS.
When I open a diata map in oxygen, if I open a concept, or a task, I can edit it in the author mode.
If I open a reference file, I cannot edit it in author mode.
I was trying to explore the use of the track changes feature. I was in a reference file.
The can edit read-only file parameter is enabled.
I just don't understand what happened.

Hi Carole,
So what version of Oxygen are you using?
Have you installed some extra customization in it (plugin, framework configuration)?
As Patrik said, if you were using Oxygen 17, you could select in the Outline view the root element of your DITA reference, then right click in the editor and choose "Inspect Styles" and in the "Element" tab you could see the CSS rule which provides the not editable property.
By the way, have you used the drop-down Styles button to choose an alternate CSS?

Radu

Hello,
so I installed version 17. I opened my reference files, and everything was ok. I did nothing special. But the error message is not displayed and I can edit in author mode.
If I open the same file in 16.1, I am unable to edit in author mode. Really weird.
Well, one good thing came out of it, is that I finally installed 17. I was afraid to loose my customisation, but everything went smootly, and I can generate my documents in PDF with the colors and styles we chose for the company as I did with 16.1. I still don't understand why it was so easy.
As for my error message, I don't understand. I just hope I won't brake it in version 17.
Regards
Carole

Hi Carole,
I'm glad this works for you now.
I'm not sure what went wrong with the editing behavior previous installation though.

Radu
