OS X Mavericks DP6 - no menus

Not really a bug report but more of a heads up. There are appears to be some change between OSX Mavericks DP5 and DP6 that stops menus initialising in oXygen. The application loads up perfectly well but there are no menus bar the Oxygen XML Editor top level menu (which has no menu items).

I imagine that this is a beta OS bug rather than anything serious but wanted to make the report.

Hi,

We are aware of this issue with OS X Mavericks DP6. All Java applications that use a native menu (Mac-like) are affected. This seems to affect both Java SE 6 (from Apple) and Java SE 7 (from Oracle). Unfortunately there's nothing we can do about this at this time. This is an OS X issue and hopefully they'll fix it in the next DP update.

As a workaround, until they fix this, you could use the Metal look and feel in Oxygen. This would allow you to have the main menu in the main application window (like Windows applications have it). The unfortunate side effect is that the entire GUI loses the native Aqua/OS X aspect.
You can set this option in the Oxygen preferences. Without having a menu (and as a result no shortcuts) you can reach the preferences via the toolbar XPath options (click on the cogwheel toolbar button to the right of the XPath combo and choose XPath Options). In the Preferences dialog click in the text filter and the filter will reset and show the entire option tree. Go to the Global section (first section) and change the Look and Feel to Metal. Restart Oxygen (Use Quit from the dock bar).

Regards,
Adrian

Yes, I can confirm that this issue has been fixed in DP7.

If you were previously using the Metal look and feel to make use of the legacy menus, you can now set the Look and Feel option back to Mac OS X in Preferences, Global(first item) and restart the application.
