Eclipse update site should include "older" versions

Post by KampfCaspar »

Hi!

After upgrading to 11.2, I ran into segfaults. Wanting to down-grade (temporarily), I had to notice that the eclipse update site only holds the most-recent version.

I would REALLY appreciate if the update site held all previously published versions. After all, Eclipse offers the possibility to go back to older installation "snapshots" but requires those older versions to be available on the update sites.

Contrary to the current layout, that should be ONE update site with ALL (even minor) versions.

Hello,

Right now we only keep public the latest minor version for each major version(11.2, 10.3, 9.3, etc) and they are also kept on separate update sites. I'm guessing you noticed that.
We'll consider bringing them all together on a common update site. But I believe the choice to separate them has been made to avoid confusion for the less experienced users.

If you need the previous version(11.1), it is still up but the update site is not public:
http://www.oxygenxml.com/InstData11.1/E ... e/site.xml

We will see if we can keep public the previous minor version when a new version is released. Perhaps we will add it to the software archive page:
http://www.oxygenxml.com/software_archive.html
But I don't think it's going to be possible for us to keep up all the versions minor and major.

If I'm right, Eclipse has "Show only the latest versions of available software" checked by default. It will therefore (by default) only show the latest oXygen version and not distract new users.

As you're presenting separate zip downloads, probably ONE update site with only the current version (for dummies) and ONE "real" update site with all versions (for all others) might be a solution?

I'm sure I'm not the only one who considers DISabling a common Eclipse feature (Installation History) .... unfortunate.

Hello,

That's what we've actually been considering, to simply have a separate update site which provides all the versions we have available.
