Re: Ways to store CSS-accessible book metadata besides <bookmeta>?

Thanks Costin! Yes, I've used a similar solution in my own CSS. I would really like to eliminate the duplicated metadata itself. Is there a way to (1) prevent the DITA-OT from such excessive duplication, or (2) is there another way besides the <bookmeta> construct to communicate data from DITA sourc...

Ways to store CSS-accessible book metadata besides <bookmeta>?

We store metadata about our book in a <bookmeta> element in the top-level bookmap file, like this: <bookmap> <title>Our Product User Guide</title> <bookmeta> <author>chrispy</author> <publisherinformation> <organization>My Company, Inc.</organization> <printlocation>Mountain View, CA</printlocation>...

Re: SVGs sometimes show "www.w3.org:80 failed to respond"

Hmmm, I wonder if I broke something. Reenabling all frameworks results in responsive SVG display in the editor when opening topics (hooray!). However, I still see the following messages in the PDF Chemistry log file, and PDF publishing takes an extremely long time: [exec] 22643 INFO [ main ] org.apa...

Re: SVGs sometimes show "www.w3.org:80 failed to respond"

Radu, your hunch is correct! :) It's working much better now. I had unchecked all the formats our writers would not be editing , thinking that it would improve the performance of their editing experience (opening files, etc.). Should I simply re-enable everything? Is there any performance or user-ex...

SVGs sometimes show "www.w3.org:80 failed to respond"

Sometimes in the DITA editor, SVG images show up as broken links with the following error: Cannot display image <svg filename> www.w3.org:80 failed to respond (http://www.w3.org/Graphics/SVG/1.1/DTD/svg11.dtd) To reload the image please use the Reload (F5 key) action. Our company firewall is fairly ...

Re: Sharing CSS files between authoring window and Chemistry PDF (and WebHelp HTML5?)

I learned some things today while trying to implement cross-reference styles in CSS. 1. The content: CSS property differs between web browsers, the XML Author editing window, and PDF Chemistry as follows: In a web browser, content: cannot override the content of an element; it can only prepend or ap...

The margin behavior change that Dan mentions is a result of this discussion: "How do I suppress margin-top/margin-bottom at the top/bottom of the content bounding box?" https://www.oxygenxml.com/forum/topic20016.html As Dan says, this is needed for body content that flows across multiple pages witho...

Re: Extra space added for <codeblock> and <codeph>

Hi Michael, After Oxygen XML Support guided me to open the merged HTML in Chrome and inspect styles there, I have been using it quite heavily to debug PDF formatting issues. I imagine you'll find it quite useful too! Don't forget to set the rendering mode to "print": https://www.oxygenxml.com/doc/ve...

We found something, we could use the space-before and space-after FO attributes instead of margin-top and margin-bottom in the intermediate FO file. We will notify you when we have a build.
This sounds very promising - thank you!!

Re: Prevent insertion of multiple spaces between words in normal text

Thanks for the feedback. Indeed if we implement this improvement of preventing extra white spaces between words we will probably do that only for elements which are not space-preserve, so you will probably not need an extra way to specify the excepted elements because Oxygen already knows the space...

More progress! There are three PDF Chemistry parameters that I can set to specify these files. So, I created a small script to make my own copy of these four folders: #!/bin/bash OXYGEN=/mnt/c/Program\ Files/Oxygen\ XML\ Author\ 21.0/ rm -rf ./css_core ./css_print ./css_webhelp ./css_editlink cp -R ...

Re: Add a document type for a custom RNG schema with a custom URN

This is interesting; I didn't know you could provide a DITA schema using a custom framework. Does that relieve users from having to put it in the plugins/ folder of the DITA-OT installation inside the Oxygen XML directory?

Re: Prevent insertion of multiple spaces between words in normal text

FrameMaker has an option for this ("Smart Spaces"). Unfortunately, sometimes we need it (example reports from software output) and sometimes we don't (regular body text). Personally I'd like this capability, but with the ability to exempt certain elements from it.

Getting a handle on <bookmap> CSS selectors

Hi everyone, Some of our books use <part> volume dividers in the bookmaps and some do not. It's been a bit challenging to write CSS selectors that work in both cases. To more easily see what attributes are available, I wrote a little perl script called show_html_structure.pl that processes the tempo...

How do I suppress margin-top/margin-bottom at the top/bottom of the content bounding box?

We use margin-top and margin-bottom to keep our elements spaced properly. For example, our H2s have a margin-top of 14pt to visually set them away from the preceding content. The problem is, the margins get applied even at the very top (or bottom) of the content area on the printed page. If the @pag...

Re: Sharing CSS files between authoring window and Chemistry PDF (and WebHelp HTML5?)

The "unset" file approach fixes some things (like padding and margins), but I still find myself fighting things in the built-in CSS files. For example, there are lots of properties in "dita/css/print/p-numbering-shallow.css" that are defined with !important, which require me to precisely write selec...

Re: Sharing CSS files between authoring window and Chemistry PDF (and WebHelp HTML5?)

I found a good way to apply formats separately to the authoring window and to PDF Chemistry (where needed). I am a strong believer that CSS-based PDF creation is the way for us to go, especially with the powerful extensions (xpath, etc.) y...

When the cursor is inside a block element that contains text and it's val...

It would be very useful for the editor to support true zoom levels. We have about 35k printed pages of DITA content.
